Jeremiah Wright
The most cogent and intelligent thing I've heard said about the recent Jeremiah Wright brouhaha came from Mychal Massie, chairman of the Project 21 black leadership network:
"There is no black church. There is no white church. There's only the Christian church."
Amen!
"There is no black church. There is no white church. There's only the Christian church."
Amen!

yeah?
So, how many African Americans are members of the Society in the United States?
And why is that?
Why is it that the Society of Friends, which so frequently points to its role in abolishing slavery, is bereft of African American members?
(Go read thy history, Friend, to discover that we, the Society, refused them membership.)
In Christ there may be no black or white but in American Christianity--and in the Society of Friends in America--there certainly is.
Good point, Timothy. Here is a transcript of a lecture by Quaker historian Margaret Hope Bacon (which you are probably already familiar with), which documents the Religious Society of Friends in America's poor record of including African-Americans: http://www.fgcquaker.org/library/racism/smd-bacon.php
So, what can be done now to bring more non-whites into the Society?
