Politics

As a political independent, I tend to flip back and forth between the Conversative and Progressive radio stations. I take the pundits and politicians on each with a grain of salt. What is interesting is that when you filter out the rhetoric and finger-pointing and just listen to the actual ideas being put forth, both camps seem to be saying remarkably similar things. Likewise, when you compare how they describe their opponents, each side levels the same accusations, almost verbatim. It is as if the two camps exist primarily for the purpose of having someone to be against even if, in reality, they have more in common than in dispute. This has lead me to the conclusion that most of our political discourse is not about advancing ideologies but rather about obtaining, preserving and consolidating power.
